The Catlins

The Catlins is the southern region between Dunedin and Invercargill on the south island of New Zealand.
The highlight here was a close encounter with the endangered yellow eyed penguins that were at the beach where we stopped to view the petrified forest.
First though, we stopped by the highway to explore this railway tunnel.

We were fascinated by this preserved tunnel.
You will have to click on this to enlarge and read the story.

The infra red on the video is fun to use from time to time.

We stopped for lunch over looking the Pacific Ocean. This is the Florence viewpoint.

We have been driving along agricultural land for a few days now. The ratio Dave says is 700 sheep to one beef animal

The petrified forest is at Curio Bay. A fossil forest from
the Jurassic Age some one hundred and sixty million years ago.

Can you see the 2 trees in this photo?
Yellow eyed penguin posing!!
How's this for the profile view?

Vegging out time ( ignore the doo doo)
