Adelaide, South Australia

Finally able to post 2 more blogs as the modem we had was very slow, in Tasmania so decided to wait until we returned to mainland Australia. We are now in Melbourne leaving for New Zealand in the am.
We stayed at a very large RV park in Adelaide. It was very close to the beach, lovely. Because we had an 8 day stay, we befriended a few locals who were also camping, and other travellers. This is always such a bonus.

Awesome architecture, old and new, in the city of Adelaide. Population around 1.2 million. The city was easily accessed by our campervan but don't forget to plug the parking meters!! Ask us how we happen to know that a parking ticket is 43 Aussie dollars.

We popped in here for a free taste and ended up with a yummy purchase or two!

Queen Victoria Park and fountain. Apparently South Australia was the only state not first settled by convicts banished from England. We found out this bit of history from the guide on the wine tour.

Our very 1st cricket game. We did as the Aussies do on Australia Day. That is their "Canada Day" or July 4th in the USA. What a hoot. All the locals around us trying to teach someone with zero knowledge. But Irene did join in when they sang "Waltzing Matilda" during one of the breaks. Even remembered all the words.

A game of cricket can take up to 5 days. And a day of cricket is from 1030 am to 530 pm. Of course there is a lunch break for the team for about 45 minutes.

The "baller" is the pitcher (without a hat)
The batsman is the batter wearing the gear.
It was Australia vs India and Australia ended up winning the game in 41/2 days.

Ausssie Police at the cricket oval.

These 5 young Aussies were happy to pose for a picture at the lunch break.

The sea shore was only a short block away from our camper.

And feast your eyes on the bbq facilities in the RV park

Never saw tree house type camper in our travels yet. Opens on the top of this small car.

And this tent was like a suite in canvas. Very elaborate.

Dave and our friend Greg McDonald before leaving for a round of golf. Dave had to " hire" his "sticks" and they were steel shafts. A little heavier than what he uses.
We enjoyed meeting this couple in the RV park. They live 3 hours north of Adelaide but their children live here so they camp at this park often.

You never know who's watching you!!

Nice wine touring bus. Tasting was excellent and they gave large portions too!
What a headache Irene had that night.

Sacrificed going to church on Sunday (today). However took a few communions to make up for it!!

Nice group on the tour. Brothers from Wales, couple from Sydney, couple from Perth and the others from the state of Victoria

The Central Market in the centre of the city was huge and everyone does go there on Saturdays for their fresh fruit and veggies. Squatty (flat) peaches far right.

And their sea food is mostly fresh. These blue crabs were a novelty for us. And the price you see is per kilogram.

How about a purchase from this meat vendor?

The last night in South Australia, we stayed in a hotel in Glenelg. Glenelg is a tourist town near the sea and close to the airport. This was a photo of the architecture along many streets. The lattice is metal material.

The square overlooking the sea shore in Glenelg only 4 blocks from our hotel

Ahhh cricket. I saw one day of a match when I was in England. Isn't the "baller" actually the "bowler"? Looks like Aussies have much better teeth than Brits, and Dad is looking pretty spiff by the wine tasting bar!
